WELCOME TO STAFFORDSHIRE PROBATION AREA
Welcome to the website of Staffordshire Probation Area, part of the National Probation Service for England and Wales which comes under the direction of the Ministry of Justice.
The site aims to directly inform you about the organisation, role and work of the Probation Services in Staffordshire and to provide links to other Probation Areas and other organisations with whom we work closely.
We hope to explain clearly how the Probation Service in Staffordshire aims to achieve its mission to protect the public through reducing reoffending. For those of you who may be considering a career in Probation, we will provide information on the types of employment we provide and how to apply to join the service.
In order to be successful, we work with all the local authorities in Staffordshire to ensure that measures to reduce reoffending are agreed and incorporate in all Local Area Agreements. We work in partnership with voluntary and commercial organisations to deliver our wide range of service.
The overall responsibility for the Probation Service in Staffordshire is vested in the Staffordshire Probation Board, made up of a Chairman and Non Executives, who reside in the County and have been selected for their experience and commitment to improving our community, and the Chief Officer. The Board meets monthly and all Agendas, dates and locations of meetings, Minutes and Board papers can be found on this site.
The Probation and Prison Services are part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) and work closely together. The Criminal Justice Act of 2007 allowed Probation Services to change to Probation Trusts, with more local autonomy over the management and delivery of service, and also for more services to be provided by the private and voluntary sector. These changes will present both challenges and opportunities for the service in Staffordshire. We hope you will bookmark our site and become a regular visitor so we can keep you updated on what this new future holds, and to seek your opinions on how we should proceed.
Rob Mandley - Chief Probation Officer
