Staffordshire Probation to merge .....
28th Jan, 2010 to 31st Mar, 2010
In 2007, the Government announced that all Probation Boards in England and Wales would have the opportunity to become Probation Trusts by April 2010 subject to successful applications.
Staffordshire and West Midlands Probation Boards made a joint submission to become one Probation Trust from April 2010.
The ministerial agreement to merge was given in January 2010.
The new organisation will be the largest probation organisation outside London.
The decision to merge was a business decision to release resources to front line services by reducing overheads by having one Board and one Senior Management Team. The merger also allows the removal of duplication of services along with implementing the efficiency savings from the Standards, Benchmarking and Costing (SBC) projects.
The new organisation will be called Staffordshire and West Midlands (SWM) Probation Trust and will have 9 Local Delovery Units (LDUs). These will integrate with local partners not only from within the Criminal Justice area but also third sector partners and local authorities.
For more information on the merger and the new Trust, please contact staffs.probation@staffordshire.gov.uk. For more information on West Midlands Probation Area please visit their site at www.westmidlands-probation.gov.uk.
A full press release will follow shortly.
